The Hiram Squires Masonic Riders recently had a benefit ride for the Tennessee Fisher House Foundation. The group raised more than $8,000 on a rainy Saturday between Murfreesboro and Common John Brewery in Manchester with several stops in between, according to a press release.

Tennessee Fisher House is a “Home away from Home” for families of Veterans undergoing treatment at the Alvin C. York Veterans Medical Center in Murfreesboro. Families from 50 miles away or more from Murfreesboro are provided lodging in one of the 12 Suites and meals (self-prepared or by volunteers or gift cards). Each suite has private bathrooms; television; computer; a sitting area in a secured room. There are washers and dryers in the Fisher House. The House does have a dining room, a family room, and a living room setting. Outside the Tennessee Fisher House are rocking chairs, a gazebo, and walkways with benches for resting and meditation.

For more than 30 years, The Fisher House program has helped families stay with loved ones receiving medical care at a major military and VA medical centers, because we believe “A family’s love is good medicine.” The 91 Fisher Houses nationwide and in Germany and The United Kingdom are free to military and veterans’ families so they can be close to their loved one during medical crises. This eliminates the concern of how the loved ones are going to be able to afford lodging, food and necessities while providing family care.

The Tennessee Fisher House was opened in November 2013 and has saved many families money. That is done through volunteers and donors. For more information on how you can help, visit www.TennesseeFisherHouse.org or call 615-916-1310. The Tennessee Fisher House Foundation is a 501-c-3 organization.
