Rutherford County, TN—Rutherford County Fire Rescue (RCFR) Chief Larry Farley announced Wednesday the promotion of Andy Haston to the position of Captain.

Haston, who started his career with RCFR in 2013, was selected by the Captain Assessment Committee to fill the C-shift Captain’s vacancy upon Joshua Sanders promoting to the position of Fire Marshal.

Holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, Haston quickly rose through the ranks of RCFR, serving in roles such as Firefighter, Recruitment and Retention Coordinator, Engineer, and Lieutenant.

“I am excited about this new opportunity,” said Haston. “I was fortunate enough to be hired when RCFR went from a volunteer department to a combination department which has given me a front row seat to the department’s journey. I am honored to be entrusted with this responsibility.”

Haston is a certified Emergency Medical Technician and holds certifications for Fire Officer 1 and 2, Instructor 1, Swiftwater Technician, and Hazardous Materials Ops.

“I have personally witnessed Andy’s growth within the department throughout his career with RCFR,” said Chief Farley. “He has worked diligently on his leadership and command skills, and I know he will perform well in this role.”

“I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to Captain Haston,” said Mayor Bill Ketron. “I know that he will serve RCFR and our community with pride, professionalism, and compassion.”

Haston officially assumed the Captain’s role July 7.

Rutherford County Fire Rescue recently promoted a host of new lieutenants and engineers.

Chad Alexander, Doug Roell, Tyler Benefield, Bret Miles, and Brandon Young were promoted to Lieutenants on July 1. Tyler Ruiz, Jay Turner, William Steele, Lora Stover, Austin Garner, and Matt Stevens were promoted to Engineers also on July 1.

As of July 7, Daniel Alexander was promoted to Lieutenant and Brad Matthews was promoted to Engineer.

Phillip Nichols was promoted to Lieutenant in April 2021.

“Rutherford County Fire Rescue was awarded additional Lieutenant and Engineer promotions to allow for every paid fire station to have one of each position on shift,” said Fire Rescue Chief Larry Farley. “We are proud of the men and women who promoted to these positions, as we know they will serve our department and the community well,” he added.

“Rutherford County is fortunate to have some of the most incredible first responders and public safety personnel in the state,” said Rutherford County Mayor Bill Ketron. “I would like to personally congratulate these personnel on their recent accomplishments. We are so blessed to have you serving our amazing community.”
