It shouldn't suprise you that Generation X folks are looking for perceived values in home buying. They lived through the 1980 recession as well as lost almost 1/2 of their generational wealth in the 2007 Great recession. So cities where values are low due to shifts in demographics and industry should come as no surprise. Generation X is flocking to these metropolitan areas

LendingTree reported that Generation X makes up over a quarter of potential homebuyers in some of the country’s largest metropolitan cities. Under millennials, they’re the second-largest group of homebuyers. 

“Where exactly are GenXers snatching up property right now?” you ask. The answers might surprise you. According to the study, these are the 10 most popular metropolitan areas for GenX homebuyers: 

  1. Memphis, Tennessee
  2. Jacksonville, Florida
  3. Atlanta
  4. Washington, D.C.
  5. Orlando, Florida
  6. Miami
  7. New Orleans
  8. Baltimore
  9. Tampa, Florida
  10. Raleigh, North Carolina.

These are the 10 most unpopular metropolitan areas for GenX homebuyers:

  1. San Jose, California
  2. Nashville, Tennessee
  3. Seattle
  4. Pittsburgh
  5. Austin, Texas
