Senior citizens who live alone may not receive Christmas presents.

That’s why the sheriff’s Detention deputies are collecting gifts for 85 senior members of the Sheriff’s Senior Citizens Awareness Network, said Deputy Lydia Saunders, the detention community organizer.

“I feel like this is a good way to give back,” Saunders said.

Seniors need new full-size blankets, gripper socks and toiletries.

SCAN Coordinator E.T. Guice said the seniors need toothpaste, toothbrushes, tissues, lotions and hand sanitizers.

Donations will be accepted from employees in the Sheriff’s Office lobby from Friday, Nov. 30 to Friday, Dec. 14. Detention employees will deliver the gifts.

Detention Capt. Chris Fly said the collection shows a good way to help the community.

“The seniors are people who helped create a path for us,” Fly said.
