No weapons have been found at Riverdale High School and the school is not on lockdown Friday, Rutherford County Sheriff’s supervisors said.

Extra School Resource Officers were posted at the school as a precaution today after a Rutherford County Schools’ student allegedly posted a threat against the high school on social media Thursday.

The student was charged with two felony counts of making a false report. He is being held in Rutherford County Juvenile Detention.

SRO Capt. Brad Harrison said the investigation showed the student acted alone. There was no proof anyone else was involved.

One day after the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office arrested four juveniles for vandalizing a black church, authorities learned about a threat regarding Riverdale High School today, said Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh.

"Anytime we have a potential threat to a school, we take these threats seriously," the sheriff said. "In situations such as this, the safety of our children and educators is paramount."

Rutherford County Schools spokesman James Evans said the perpetrator has been located and arrested.

A 17-year-old Rutherford County boy was charged after he allegedly posted threats today against Riverdale High School students, Rutherford County Sheriff’s supervisors said.

The student was charged with two felony counts of making false reports after giving a statement about the social media posts, said School Resource Officer Capt. Brad Harrison. He was believed acting alone.

“We want parents to know we are committed to the safety of the children, along with the teachers and staff,” Harrison said. “We don’t take these threats lightly.”

Rutherford County schools, SROs and sheriff’s detectives learned about the post that went viral through the school and the county Thursday afternoon. They worked together to identify the student.

“Through posts, we were able to track down the location where the post was made,” Harrison said. “We visited the home and located the juvenile.”

Detective Will Pinson charged the boy who was taken to the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center.

The juvenile allegedly posted an anonymous Instagram post "I will kill these people tomorrow at Riverdale High School."

School Resource Officers and the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division detectives investigated the threat.
