In a post on its website, Rutherford County Schools set the tentative opening dates for Rockval High and Rocky Fork Elementary schools in August 2019.

Here are a few other questions the system asked about its two newest schools.

When will the rezoning take place?

The school board and director of schools will discuss this issue at special-called board meetings that are open to the public. The schedule of meetings will be announced at a later date and will be communicated with parents.

As part of the rezoning plan, the School Board will decide whether any grandfather options will be available.

Who is the principal of the new school? When can we expect to see job postings for the new school?

A principal will likely be chosen later this fall. Once this person is in place, the principal will then begin the task of hiring a staff. Interested candidates are always encouraged to connect with the district’s human resources department. RCS will host its annual job fair at Blackman High School on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 9–11 a.m.

Is there a drawing or image of what the new schools will look like?

Rockvale High School will be very similar to the design used for Stewarts Creek High School.

Rock Fork Elementary School will be a two-story facility with features similar to the recently-opened John Colemon Elementary School.

Will state highway 99 be widened near Rockvale High School? Will the new road cutting through to the backside of the high school connect with 99?

Highway 99 will be widened and longer turning lanes will be installed. This will allow for more vehicle stacking. There will be an access road from the internal roadway system out to Thompson Road. However, there will not be a direct road from Highway 99 to Thompson Road.
