What do pizza, math games, and a giant A+ costume have in common? Well, if you were at Mathnasium's Free Math Game Night on Saturday, Aug. 11, you know the answer to that question.

With multiple fun interactive games including Connect Four, Math Card Games, and a spin-the-wheel type question and answer station, kids earn marks on game cards and turn them in for a special prize at the end of the evening. For some added enjoyment, there's even a giant A+ mascot roaming around the festivities.

Located at 3411 Memorial Blvd. in the Publix Shopping Center, Mathnasium is a place for kids to work out their math skills. According to the local franchise owner, Kristi Yates, Mathnasium "makes math make sense."

Open after school from 3-7 p.m. and on Saturdays from noon-4 p.m., Yates says Mathnasium's goal is to help kids who are behind or even ahead in the subject develop an understanding and enjoyment of math.

"We offer free assessments, which is a great starting point for any parent to see how their child is doing in math," said Yates.

With more than 900 Mathnasium centers in the nation, it appears the company has found its stride in helping children of all ages hone their mathematics skills.

There are nine Mathnasium locations in Tennessee with three of those being here in the Middle Tennessee cities of Murfreesboro, Franklin, and Nashville.

Yates and her husband Andrew bought the Murfreesboro location in May after previously running the two Chattanooga locations.

"It's like a gym membership," continued Yates. "Monthly members can come in anytime that we're open."

Adding to the fun, Yates's Murfreesboro location is hosting a monthly Free Math Game Night through the end of the year. The Game Night is open to the public with free pizza, games, and prizes provided.

The next Math Game Night is scheduled for Sept. 8 from 4-6 p.m.
