Longtime Smyrna resident Carl Boyd has announced his candidacy for the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners in District 12 in the upcoming May 3 Republican primary.  District 12 consists of the Smyrna Base/Weakley Lane, Sam Davis Road, Bent Tree, Lake Farm, Green Acres and Riverview areas of Smyrna northeast of Lowry Street.  The district also includes a portion of Fergus Road in LaVergne.

“Rutherford County has some serious issues to address in the next four years.  It is extremely important that we have a strong conservative voice to represent our district,” Boyd said.  “Smyrna has been my family’s home for four generations. I have seen first-hand the growth that we have experienced. Education, infrastructure improvements, and maintaining a low property tax rate are areas that I will focus on as your county commissioner,” Boyd continued.

Boyd’s roots run deep in Smyrna. He is a graduate of Smyrna High School and attended Middle Tennessee State University.   He has been married to Karen Boyd for 39 years, and they have raised three children in Smyrna: Brittany Boyd Oliver, Adam Boyd, and Conner Boyd. He has two wonderful grandchildren, Ann Marie and Evelyn, that attend Rutherford County Schools.

Boyd was a Manager with United Parcel Service and retired after 37 years of service. Efficiency and fiscal management are two of the most common skills demonstrated by UPS executives, both of which would be beneficial in county government. In his spare time, he has been involved with Smyrna Youth Sports as a coach in softball and youth football.  Boyd served as vice-president of the Smyrna Bulldog Baseball booster club. He currently serves on the Smyrna Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.  Boyd and his wife Karen attend Highland Heights Church of Christ.

“My goal is to visit with as many of our residents possible so I can inform them of my background, my conservative values and beliefs, and to personally ask them for their vote as their 12th district County Commissioner in the May 3, 2022 Rutherford County Republican Primary,” said Boyd.
