UPDATE: Victim of Summerlake Apartments shooting identified as 16-year-old male

The victim of the fatal shooting at Summerlake Apartments Friday night has been identified as a 16-year-old male.

All other parties involved are in their late teens and have been identified and interviewed.

At this time, investigators have no reason to believe this was a random crime. The parties involved may have known each other.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Previous Release

At approximately 6:59 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, officers responded to a report of shots fired at Summerlake Apartments on National Drive, according to a press release from the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim who had been shot. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene; the motive is unknown. The name of the victim will not be released pending notification of next of kin.

Crime scene investigators are interviewing witnesses and people who live at the complex and are trying to determine what happened.

The investigation is ongoing. No further details are available at this time.
