Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department responded to a three-story house fire at 831 Banner Drive around 6:30 Sunday morning, according to a news release from the department.

Ladders 6 and 7, Engine 4, and Rescue 7 were the initial responding apparatus to the scene. District 8 was requested once the first arriving crews noticed a large amount of black smoke coming from the structure.

Battalion Chief Tim Swann said the fire was located in the garage and crews were able to extinguish it before it spread to other parts of the structure. The garage is a total loss, but the rest of the home only received smoke damage throughout.

“The initial knockdown of the fire was completed within 10-15 minutes of arriving on scene,” Swann said.

The fire appears to have started in the garage, but the cause is unknown at this time.

Two residents were displaced, but it is unclear if they will require assistance from the American Red Cross.

A routine investigation will be conducted and more information will be released as it becomes available.
