The students of Rutherford County will be celebrated on MTSU’s campus with the fifth Winner’s Circle Fine Art Exhibit on Saturday, May 19, at Todd Art Gallery.
The exhibition will feature artwork by K-12 students from Murfreesboro City and Rutherford County Schools as well as from area private schools and homeschoolers.
The event is part of Saturdays at Todd, a faculty-led initiative this spring by the Department of Art and Design to increase community interaction by expanding exhibit hours to a weekend day (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) while also offering various art-related workshops.
This Saturday’s featured events will kick off at 1 p.m. with the Winner’s Circle Award Reception and will end at 3:30 p.m. when scheduled demonstrations and workshops conclude.
Workshops run from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and include:
- In Todd Hall, Room 224A, alumni Jonathan Griffith and Kay Currie will be conducting hands-on, wheel- throwing demonstrations with audience participation facilitated by the alums. Wheel throwing is pottery-making technique in which wet clay is shaped by using a rotating wheel.
- In Room 107 to Room 151 in the Todd Hall Foundry, art design staff member Stephen Levenhagenand professor Michael Baggarly will conduct aluminum sandcasting demonstrations.
- In the courtyard between Todd Hall and Keathley University Center, Lewis Snyder and Jim Carsonwill be demonstrating Raku firing, a ceramic-making technique using a kiln.
