Man charged with attempted murder following Saturday house fire

Murfreesboro Police has charged a 52-year-old man with attempted murder for his alleged role in a fire Saturday, March 17 at 524 N. Maple St., according to a press release.

Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department responded to the fire just after 6 o'clock Saturday morning.

Crews arrived on scene to discover one victim with significant burns and heavy smoke showing from the left side of the structure. A second fire engine was called for backup. 

John Daniel CarothersThe victim was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville via LifeFlight. The victim is currently in critical, but stable condition.

Battalion Chief Tim Swann said crews made an exterior attack and located the fire in one room of the house. Search and rescue efforts determined there were no others inside. The fire was extinguished quickly and contained to the front, left room of the structure. 

The Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate.

Following the Marshall's Office investigation, MPD leveled charges against John Daniel Carothers. He has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, eight counts of reckless endangerment and one count of aggravated arson.

No other injuries were associated with this incident.
