On Wednesday, Feb. 7, Murfreesboro Police Chief Mike Bowen fired Officer Jason McGriff, the department announced in a press release.

McGriff’s employment was terminated following a review of the “facts and circumstances” related to McGriff’s actions while off-duty June 4, 2017. McGriff, 25, had been the subject of an investigation being conducted by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

According to a story on WSMV, McGriff "hit the back of a stopped vehicle" on Interstate 24, causing the death of Dianne Nigro andthree members of her family to be seriously injured.

At the time of the crash, McGriff was on a 12-month probationary period. He was hired April 17, 2017.

Pending the investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, this is all the Murfreesboro Police Department can release at this time, MPD said.
